To represent is not to act, but to be aware that one’s role has not only an individual but a social function.
In short, a public representative does not perform his function for himself, but for all those whom he represents; his is a “public” office, he belongs to the whole society for which he exposes himself and which he takes care of regardless and in favor of differences.
This is something that everyone should have very clear, both those who assume such a responsibility, and those who favor the position … especially those who favor the position who must not and cannot allow themselves power games that disqualify politics and people’s intelligence.
In reality, if you think about it, each individual (although he tries to remain closed within himself and his own interest) represents more of himself. Each individual is a manifestation of himself, but also of the history that involves him, of the people who are around him and from which the story of him or of which he has the responsibility derives.
If each individual in his small world is in any case the externalization of a larger whole than the individual, we imagine how much this is amplified for those who take on positions of high public level.
One cannot officiate for oneself alone or for those who are part of one’s entourage, but one must and must be responsible for everyone, have the ability not to cultivate one’s own small interest, but to take care, to be responsible – responsible for the response, that is, capable of responding to the needs of those who represent themselves, all those who represent themselves.
Those who work to carry out an election in favor of one or the other should ask themselves not if that person suits them, but if that person is capable of responding to the needs of a whole differentiated group of people, ideas, situations.
The games of interest are only dirty politics, not politics in the original sense, not politics that deals with the “polis”, the cities and their inhabitants.
Here, we should reflect a lot on the fact that “representing” is not playing a role, but embodying the voice of a people.

Rappresentare non è recitare, ma avere la consapevolezza che il proprio ruolo non ha solo funzione individuale quanto sociale.
Un rappresentante pubblico non officia per sé stesso la sua funzione, insomma, ma per tutti coloro che rappresenta; il suo è un ufficio “pubblico”, appartiene alla società tutta per la quale si espone e di cui si fa carico a prescindere e in favore delle differenze.
Questa è una cosa che tutti dovrebbero avere ben chiara, sia chi assume una tale responsabilità, sia chi ne favorisce l’incarico… soprattutto chi ne favorisce l’incarico che non deve e non può consentirsi giochi di potere che squalifichino la politica e l’intelligenza delle persone.
In realtà, se ci si pensa bene, ogni individuo (sebbene si sforzi di restare chiuso dentro di sé e il proprio interesse) rappresenta più di sé stesso. Ogni individuo è manifestazione di sè, ma anche della storia che lo coinvolge, delle persone che gli sono intorno e da cui deriva la sua storia o di cui ha la responsabilità.
Se ogni individuo nel suo piccolo mondo è comunque esteriorizzazione di un tutto più ampio del singolo, immaginiamo quanto questo sia amplificato per chi assume cariche di alto respiro pubblico.
Non si può officiare per sé stessi soltanto o per quelli che fanno parte del proprio entourage, ma bisogna e si deve essere responsabili di tutti, avere la capacità di non coltivare il proprio piccolo interesse, ma aver cura, essere responsabile -abile alla risposta, cioè capace di rispondere- alle esigenze di chi si rappresenta, tutti coloro che si rappresenta.
Chi lavora per attuare un’elezione a favore di uno o dell’altro dovrebbe chiedersi non se quella persona gli fa comodo, ma se quella persona è capace di rispondere alle esigenze di un intero gruppo differenziato di persone, idee, situazioni.
I giochi di interesse sono solo politica sporca, non politica in senso originario, non politica che si occupa delle “polis”, delle città e dei suoi abitanti.
Ecco, dovremmo molto riflettere sul fatto che “rappresentare” non è recitare un ruolo, ma incarnare la voce di un popolo.
