We have not yet abandoned that colonial attitude which shows the territories of the world as possessions to be taken or abandoned. Those who suffer are those who have trusted us and who remain alone. How will we treat those who try to escape after believing in the Western world? Then we will forget that they helped us, that they hoped to be able to eradicate a system that was destroying them, but then they still didn’t understand. What are we going to do? After feeding the market for our weapons that now feed on their lives, what will we say? That we don’t want refugees? Closed ports? Everyone at his house? Voices known and forgotten of our responsibilities. How many journalists, how many women, how many girls will have to lose their lives and their new freedom because the West shrugs … as always?

Ancora non abbiamo abbandonato quell’atteggiamento coloniale che fa vedere i territori del mondo come possessi da prendere o abbandonare. Chi patisce è chi ha avuto fiducia e che da solo resta. Come tratteremo coloro che tentano la fuga dopo aver creduto nell’Occidente? Allora ci dimenticheremo che ci hanno aiutati, che hanno sperato di poter debellare un sistema che li distruggeva, ma allora non avevano ancora capito. Noi che cosa faremo? Dopo aver alimentato il mercato delle nostre armi che ora si nutrono della loro vita, noi che cosa diremo? Che non vogliamo i profughi? Porti chiusi? Ognuno a casa sua? Voci note e dimentiche delle nostre responsabilità. Quanti giornalisti, quante donne, quante bambine dovranno perdere la propria vita e la propria nuova libertà perché l’Occidente si scrolla le spalle… come sempre?
