I have always preferred the silence of action, even through words, but the dignified and honest ones to the loud but empty words shouted as hard as they can. Which leads us to reflect on what the silence of action through words is and on what dignified and honest words are.
The silence of action through words … seems an oxymoron if not a paradox. How is it possible that words perform actions and that, above all, they do it in silence? Well, I am convinced that the understanding of this meaning includes the possibility of giving rise to a new way of building relationships, a way that does not foresee exhibition but assertion, not ostentation but sincerity.
What does “word” mean?
“Word” comes from the vulgar Latin “paràula”, a contraction of the Christian Latin “paràbola”, which means allegorical moral story, and from the Greek “parabolé”(composed of “parà “, that is, near / beside, and “ballo “, that is, I put / place in the sense of “I put next to / I compare”) therefore, a story by comparison, by similarity (source A. Gabrielli, Modern linguistic dictionary).
Each word, therefore, is a narration that involves other narratives, which explains and exemplifies a signifier and a meaning. Its semantic value goes far beyond the graphemes of each single letter that compose it and which serve to leave an imprint of oneself in time and memory.
The shouted word, declaimed without the strength of its meaning and the respect of its signifier, is a word downgraded to a pure formal act and deprived of its narrative value.
The silent word, on the other hand, is a word that tells and is told and that in narrating builds effective and decisive actions. The silent word leaves its marks, the shouted one can’t wait for it to disappear and is soon forgotten.
The shouted word mythologizes the person who screams, but demystifies the meaning. The silent word sacralizes the universality and centrality of the human person.
The shouted word has no route or direction; very often it marries the ephemeral and the striking in an attempt to remain on display, but precisely for this reason it expresses above all the falsehood that flattery contains and the mockery that scoffs at the truth. The silent word expresses kindness, listening, sharing and never laughs at what it does not recognize as true, it simply denounces it.
It is a matter of choosing between staying there, omnipresent screaming for emptiness, or building in silence the action that changes desire into expectation, expectation into hope, hope into life.

Che cosa significa “parola”?
“Parola” deriva dal latino volgare “paràula”, contrazione del latino cristiano “paràbola”, che significa racconto morale allegorico, e dal greco “parabolé (composto di “parà”, cioè, presso/accanto, e “ballo”, cioè, metto/colloco nel senso di “metto accanto/metto a confronto”) quindi, un racconto per comparazione, per similitudine (fonte A. Ogni parola, dunque, è una narrazione che coinvolge altre narrazioni, che spiega ed esemplifica un significante ed un significato. Il suo valore semantico va ben oltre i grafemi di ogni singola lettera che la compongono e che servono a lasciare un’impronta di sé nel tempo e nella memoria.
La parola urlata, declamata senza la forza del suo significato e il rispetto del suo significante, è una parola declassata a puro atto formale e privata del suo valore narrativo.
La parola silenziosa, invece, è una parola che narra e si narra e che nel narrare costruisce azioni efficaci e determinanti. La parola silenziosa lascia segni, quella urlata non si vede l’ora che sparisca ed è presto dimenticata.
La parola urlata mitizza la persona che urla, ma demistifica il senso. La parola silenziosa sacralizza l’universalità e la centralità della persona umana.
La parola urlata non ha una linea né una direzione; molto spesso sposa l’effimero e l’eclatante nel tentativo di restare in mostra, ma proprio per questo esprime soprattutto il falso che l’adulazione contiene e l’irrisorio che schernisce il vero. La parola silenziosa esprime gentilezza, ascolto, compartecipazione e non deride mai ciò che non riconosce come vero, semplicemente lo denuncia.
Si tratta di scegliere tra restare lì, onnipresenti a urlare il vuoto, oppure costruire in silenzio l’azione che muta il desiderio in attesa, l’attesa in speranza, la speranza in vita.
