We often talk about education, citizenship and a critical spirit, but there is a basic question that often escapes from our mind: what kind of citizen do we want to train? Only by answering this question it will be possible to truly dialogue and escape the intellectual fashions that vary without time limits and without goals to be reached, and which lack a true and honest intellectual maturity.
In short, as long as we go randomly in the education and training of young people, as long as prejudice prevails over meaning, we will always and only materialize a failure.
In fact, if the citizen we want to train is someone who disdains differences, who makes them an instrument of hatred and persecution, then the failure has begun well before the training was concretized, and it began when we were trained and remained linked to the inconsistencies and prejudices that have deteriorated our way of seeing things.
Be careful not to involve more and more with our selective attitude that leads to the most acrid individualism and the most desperate loneliness, be careful not to give up in front of fundamental goals that could even make worse an already dangerous condition of the weakest.
What then, even this weakness I would like to understand! I would like to understand who has invented and instilled it in our unconscious and unconscious thinking.
Every difference embodied in a person, for me, is not distance, but possibility, harmony, knowledge, comparison, dialogue.
This is what we should teach, this is what we should preach by ceasing to place ourselves above the others with the presumption of being able to establish which human being is superior to the other, which creature has the right to choose to seek a future, which person should be considered inferior because his culture, religion or sexual orientation are different from those we have established as “normal”.
What normality are we talking about? The one that allows women to be responsible for the rape they suffered? The one that sees people with different sexual orientations considered as “impure” and persecuted for it? The one that divides people based on skin color? The one that foments violence against those who we do not consider part of a group for one or all and more of the reasons listed in the previous questions?
This is not normality, this is evil unworthy of a human being, unworthy of a thought that shapes the future by informing him of a serious and honest responsibility towards every person and every life. So, before proclaiming ourselves guardians of young people and their trainers, let us ask ourselves, let us lay bare the truth of our “adulthood” and ask ourselves several times “what kind of citizen do we want to train?”
I would like to train free citizens, that is, capable of loving the other and loving themselves.

Si parla spesso di formazione, di cittadinanza e spirito critico, ma c’è una domanda di base che spesso sfugge: quale cittadino vogliamo formare? Solo rispondendo a tale quesito sarà possibile dialogare davvero e sfuggire alle mode intellettuali che variano senza limite di tempo e senza traguardi da raggiungere, e che mancano di una vera e onesta maturità intellettuale.
Insomma, fino a quando andremo a caso nell’educazione e nella formazione dei giovani, fino a quando il pregiudizio prevarrà sul senso, concretizzeremo sempre e soltanto un fallimento.
Difatti, se il cittadino che desideriamo formare è uno che disdegna le differenze, che le rende strumento di odio e persecuzione, allora il fallimento è cominciato ben prima che la formazione sia stata concretizzata, ed è cominciata quando noi siamo stati formati e siamo restati legati a incoerenze e pregiudizi che hanno deteriorato il nostro modo di vedere le cose.
Attenti a non involvere sempre di più con il nostro atteggiamento selettivo che sfocia nell’individualismo più acre e nella solitudine più disperante, attenti a non desistere dinanzi a traguardi fondamentali che potrebbero addirittura aggravare una già pericolosa condizione dei più deboli.
Che poi, anche questa debolezza vorrei capirla! Vorrei capire chi l’ha inventata e l’ha inculcata nel nostro pensiero incosciente e scoscienzato.
Ogni differenza incarnata in una persona, per me, non è distanza, ma possibilità, armonia, conoscenza, confronto, dialogo.
Questo dovremmo insegnare, questo è quello che dovremmo predicare smettendo di metterci al di sopra di altri con la presunzione di poter stabilire quale essere umano sia superiore all’altro, quale creatura abbia diritto di scegliere di cercare un futuro, quale persona debba considerarsi inferiore perché la sua cultura, la religione o l’orientamento sessuale sono diversi da quelli che si è stabilito “normali”.
Di quale normalità parliamo? Di quella che consente alle donne di essere responsabili dello stupro subito? Di quella che vede persone con orientamento sessuale diverso considerate come “impure” e perseguitate per questo? Di quella che divide le persone in base al colore della pelle? Di quella che fomenta la violenza contro chi non si considera parte di un gruppo per uno o tutti e di più tra i motivi elencati nei precedenti quesiti?
Questa non è normalità, questa è malvagità indegna di un essere umano, indegna di un pensiero che forma il futuro informandolo di una responsabilità seria e onesta verso ogni persona e ogni vita. Dunque, prima di proclamarci tutori dei giovani e loro formatori, interroghiamoci, mettiamo a nudo la verità della nostra “adultità” e chiediamoci a più riprese “che cittadino vogliamo formare?”
Io vorrei formare cittadini liberi, cioè capaci di amare e di volersi bene.
