I was thinking about ethics and how much more and more we need it to discern good from evil, of course, but also to better understand the changing times that require a shift forward as long as it is sensible and respectful of life. It is controversial to establish what is good versus what is bad since it is not a question of ad personam, individual and selfish criteria. I believe that keeping silent on important issues such as bioethics, genetic experimentation, euthanasia is a serious mistake that does not help to understand better and more how the current scientific and human changes can be framed in a framework that respects the sciences (technological and human beings together) who place the human person at the center honestly and with dignity. Ethics, then, like philosophy, thought and any science defined as “scientific”, are not external to life and man, but they express their voice, for this reason they must be concrete and look at the human person from within and its new emergencies and needs. If an ethical dialogue is not opened, everything, every discovery like the new man (published or unpublished) is destined to implode with the risk of falling into the clutches of fools. We should abandon all hypocrisy and admit that respect for human life is consolidated in the new sciences that safeguard its right and dignity. The research capacity, the intelligence of the human being cannot be closed in false systems, but understanding the limit to be set concerns all human beings in their entirety and one must not succumb to the dialogue in ignorant silence or in the fear of making choices. The human being is in continuous evolution and it is not possible that all sciences are not involved in this evolution. Only dialogue and mental and cultural openness can seek and discover the answers, immobility does not slow down but blocks dialogue and the maturation of thought. It is a complex path, with many implications and contradictions, but keeping them silent increases the emptiness and decreases the respect for life.

Pensavo all’etica e a quanto sempre di più ne abbiamo bisogno per discernere il bene da male, certo, ma anche comprendere meglio i tempi che cambiano e che chiedono uno spostamento in avanti purché sensato e rispettoso della vita. È controverso stabilire ciò che è bene rispetto a ciò che è male poiché non si tratta di criteri fatti ad personam, individuali ed egoistici. Credo che tacere su temi importanti come la bioetica, la sperimentazione genetica, l’eutanasia sia un grave errore che non aiuta a capire meglio e di più come gli attuali cambiamenti scientifici e umani possano essere inquadrati in una cornice che rispetti le scienze (tecnologiche e umane insieme) che mettono al centro onestamente e con dignità la persona umana. L’etica, allora, come la filosofia, il pensiero e ogni scienza definita “scientifica”, non sono esterne alla vita e all’uomo, ma ne esprimono la voce, per questo devono essere concrete e guardare dall’interno la persona umana e le sue nuove emergenze e necessità. Se non si apre un dialogo etico, ogni cosa, ogni scoperta come l’uomo nuovo (edito o inedito) è destinato a implodere con il rischio di cadere nelle grinfie degli stolti. Bisognerebbe abbandonare ogni ipocrisia e ammettere che il rispetto della vita umana si consolida nelle nuove scienze che ne salvaguardano il diritto e la dignità. La capacità di ricerca, l’intelligenza dell’essere umano non può essere chiusa nei falsi sistemi, ma capire il limite da porsi riguarda tutti gli esseri umani nella loro interezza e non si deve far soccombere il dialogo nel silenzio ignorante o nel timore di compiere scelte. L’essere umano è in continua evoluzione e non è possibile che in tale evoluzione non siano coinvolte le scienze tutte. Solo il dialogo e l’apertura mentale e culturale può cercare e scoprire le risposte, l’immobilità non frena ma blocca il dialogo e la maturazione del pensiero. È un sentiero complesso, con tante implicazioni e contraddizioni, ma tacerle accresce il vuoto e decresce il rispetto per la vita.
