Writing is not a question of taste but of responsibility. Responsibility for what you write, responsibility for those whom receive the writing, responsibility towards the ones who are the more or the less hidden inspiration of what you write.

The process of writing is never an easy one, not even when your writing is fluid and the words seem to be naturally a part both of your mind and your pen. Writing has a compulsory debt towards the life both of those you are writing of and those who are going to read your own interpretation of an event which is not the only possible one, of course, and which contemplates the freedom of writers as well as of those who read.

In any case, a writer has the impelling duty to be loyal, to be honest, not to betray the writing and the story. A writer is in charge of people and events, but he cannot betray the language, the use of a language, the weight of words as well as of their meaning and use. Grammar is important, to abilitate your writing to the different situations is a must, a way to understand and respect deeply any difference which comes to be a part of a piece of writing as the shape of the harmony you are able to give to your own life.

Writing is to establish a pact, a sort of moral and ethic agreement between the writer itself, its editor and its reader. This is the reason why writing is never a question of taste but of coherence and responsibility. A reader can despise a piece of writing because of its content, but he should never be put in the condition to recognize a good idea in the story, yet to be obliged to despise the writing because the writer is unable to support the story he is telling. This is a betrayal. There is no one way to tell a story, of course, but every story should be narrated honestly both in the narration as such and in the style of writing it.

There should be consistency in writing because writing is not a joke but a serious and responsible attitude to life and sense.

Scrivere non è una questione di gusto ma di responsabilità. Responsabilità per ciò che scrivi, responsabilità per chi riceve la scrittura, responsabilità verso coloro che sono l’ispirazione più o meno nascosta di ciò che scrivi. Il processo di scrittura non è mai facile, neanche quando la tua scrittura è fluida e le parole sembrano essere naturalmente una parte sia della tua mente che della tua penna. La scrittura ha un debito obbligato verso la vita sia di coloro di cui scrivi sia di coloro che leggeranno la tua interpretazione di un evento che non è l’unica possibile, ovviamente, e che contempla la libertà di chi scrive oltre che di quella di chi legge. In ogni caso, uno scrittore ha il dovere impellente di essere leale, di essere onesto, di non tradire la scrittura e la storia. Uno scrittore si occupa delle persone e degli eventi, ma non può tradire la lingua, l’uso di una lingua, il peso delle parole, il loro significato e la loro funzione. La grammatica è importante, abilitare la tua scrittura alle diverse situazioni è d’obbligo, un modo per comprendere e rispettare profondamente ogni differenza che entra a far parte di un brano di scrittura come forma dell’armonia che sei in grado di dare alla tua vita. Scrivere è stabilire un patto, una sorta di accordo morale ed etico tra lo scrittore stesso, il suo editore e il suo lettore. Questo è il motivo per cui scrivere non è mai una questione di gusto ma di coerenza e responsabilità. Un lettore può disprezzare un’opera di scrittura a causa del suo contenuto, ma non dovrebbe mai essere messo nella condizione di riconoscere una buona idea nella storia, e tuttavia essere obbligato a disprezzarne la scrittura perché lo scrittore non è in grado di supportare la storia che sta raccontando. Questo è un tradimento. Non c’è un modo per raccontare una storia, ovviamente, ma ogni storia dovrebbe essere narrata onestamente sia nella narrazione in quanto tale che nello stile della scrittura. Ci dovrebbe essere coerenza nella scrittura perché la scrittura non è uno scherzo, ma un atteggiamento serio e responsabile nei confronti della vita e del senso.
